Databricks Data + AI User Group Meeting

DATE: THURSDAY, AUGUST 1, 2024 AT 5:30 PM Our second meeting of the Wisconsin Databricks User Group was a success! Attendees gathered for an insightful recap of the recent Data+AI Summit 2024 in San Francisco, presented by Asif Bakar, CEO of Xorbix Technologies, and Ryan Shiva, Software Developer at Xorbix. Key Highlights: Keynote Overview: Asif Bakar provided an in-depth discussion on major announcements, including the Databricks-NVIDIA partnership and the Tabular acquisition. He explained how these collaborations are set to accelerate enterprise data for the era of generative AI and optimize data and AI workloads using NVIDIA’s GPU acceleration. Deep Dive Sessions: Ryan Shiva introduced cutting-edge technologies and features: RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation): Ryan discussed how RAG enhances LLM capabilities by combining generative power with external knowledge retrieval, resulting in more accurate and contextually aware responses. LlamaParse: A revolutionary platform for document parsing tailored for advanced RAG. Ryan showcased how this GenAI-native platform enhances LLM application performance by ensuring high-quality data input. Data-Driven Wisconsin Event (July 24th)

Date: 7/24/24 Event: Data-Driven Wisconsin Conference The fifth annual Data-Driven Wisconsin Conference was held, marking it as the premier data and advanced analytics event in Wisconsin and the upper Midwest. The event’s mission was to foster and grow the data ecosystem in the region, providing valuable insights and networking opportunities for software engineers, data scientists, and data professionals. Featured Speaker: Tyler Faulkner Our very own Tyler Faulkner, a talented software engineer at Xorbix, served as a speaker at the conference. Tyler shared his expertise on Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) Chatbots, offering attendees a deep dive into this innovative technology. Wednesday Workshop: Tyler led a half-day workshop focused on implementing a RAG bot using Azure tools. This hands-on session was designed for engineers and developers to gain practical experience with RAG technology. Thursday Talk: Then he presented a 30-minute talk on the architecture, benefits, and use cases for RAG bots. This session provided valuable insights into how RAG bots can enhance various applications and workflows. Databricks User Group Event Recap We recently partnered with Databricks to host an informative user group event, introducing participants to Databricks. This workshop provided hands-on experience with Databricks’ powerful cloud-based platform for data engineering and collaborative data science. Event Highlights The event featured sessions on: Unified Governance with Unity Catalog: Benefits of unified data governance. ETL Medallion Architecture: Importance of a multi-hop architecture for data refinement. Training and Logging Machine Learning Models with MLflow: Training models, logging parameters, and tracking experiments. Hands-On Learning Participants learned to: Manage clusters and notebook environments on AWS. Prototype applications. Access and utilize external data sources. Train machine learning models with Python libraries. Log and track model metrics with MLflow. Event Overview The Databricks Data + AI Summit 2024 was an exceptional gathering of industry leaders, innovators, and enthusiasts, focusing on the latest advancements in Data and AI. Our team attended this prestigious event, gaining invaluable insights and knowledge. Hackathon Success: GenAI Hackathon One of the standout experiences for us was participating in the GenAI Hackathon. Competing against 56 teams, we were thrilled to be selected as a top 5 finalist. Our project, the “Smart Real Estate Advisor” chatbot, demonstrated the potential of AI to revolutionize the real estate industry. Sessions and Insights Advanced AI Capabilities: The summit highlighted the latest developments in AI, particularly in natural language processing and large language models (LLMs). Our work with the DBRX model showcased how AI can effectively interpret user inputs and deliver personalized property recommendations. Building Production RAG Over Complex Documents: Led by Jerry Liu, Co-founder and CEO of LlamaIndex, this session delved into creating robust Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines. We learned about LlamaParse, a specialized Document Parser that excels at handling complex documents, improving the accuracy of RAG chatbots. Unity Catalog Open Source Announcement: Databricks announced the open sourcing of Unity Catalog, their unified governance solution for data and AI. This move reinforces Databricks’ commitment to an open ecosystem and offers enhanced flexibility for users. Data-Driven Strategies in Sports: A fascinating session on how the Texas Rangers utilize Databricks and ML/AI to gain a competitive edge. Insights into their data-driven tactics and AI applications provided a compelling example of AI’s transformative potential in sports. Conclusion Attending the Databricks Data + AI Summit 2024 was a remarkable experience that enriched our understanding of the latest trends and technologies in data and AI.
